Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

In light of the most recent incidences of police brutality and subsequent protests we at Jake and Jones will be taking time to reeducate ourselves, to confront our internal biases, and to adjust our business in order to become anti-racist. We have spent the weekend reading, listening and educating ourselves on systemic racism. And, we intend to continue to do so.

We are educating ourselves by following and reading through these IG accounts @rachelcargle @theconsciouskid @colorofchange @osopepatrise. Please feel free to reach out with other recommendations. Our ears are open.

As a store we will be reading Why I'm No Longer Talking To White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge together.  Read it with us. Or check out any of the myriad of books out there to help you educate yourself on race.

Here are a few other titles that have also been recommended:
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine

Going forward we will be donating monthly to The Southern Poverty Law Center. This is a recurring contribution to demonstrate our continuing commitment to helping to effect change.

We encourage you to spend time educating, listening and taking action.

I as a mom am committed to teaching and educating my kids and encouraging them to be active and not silent.

I as a mom am talking to my kids about racism and we as a home are talking about racism.

I as a friend to black people am listening to their stories and experiences.  I hear you.

Black Lives Matter.

Jen and The Jake and Jones Team
